August 2025
Greetings Community!
We are happy to share an update regarding the project at the old YMCA site. The site crews have completed the support of excavation (SOE) work that is required to safely protect workers within the excavation and protect the city right-of-way and utilities. This has been installed in the form of steel H piles with timber lagging engineered to retain the existing soils outside of the project excavation. We very much appreciate the community bearing with us during that disruptive activity!
Our crews are now working on exporting the soils from within the building footprint and constructing a stable working pad below the foundation of the proposed building, allowing for a safe working environment for the ground improvement crew and the subsequent foundation crew. Due to the historic ravine and the nature of the fill soils present, the subgrade requires ground improvements to be installed under the foundation to increase the soil bearing capacity to accommodate the new building, which is tentatively scheduled to start in the middle of September. This operation will require a similar rig that was utilized for the SOE installation, and we appreciate the community’s understanding and patience as we complete this required task.
Additionally, the construction team is tracking to begin the utilities connections in College Street within the next few weeks and is working to finalize the timing of this Work with the City in coordination with the other construction activities currently occurring in the City’s rights-of-way. This will require coordination with the water and traffic departments and will likely require a one-lane closure of College Street to facilitate the work safely, as well as any other requirements that the City deems necessary.
Lastly, as we work to capitalize on these excellent summer days and try to limit the overall duration and disturbance of the project, we appreciate your cooperation with our construction teams and your understanding, as we may elect to work on Saturdays. We request that you bring any concerns directly to our email address at 266college@rearchconstruction.com.
Respectfully,
