ReArch Construction is excited to announce our role as the construction manager for the new Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) for the Chittenden Solid Waste District (CSWD) in Williston, Vermont. This groundbreaking project is not only a significant step toward strengthening Vermont’s recycling infrastructure but also a clear example of ReArch Construction’s commitment to supporting sustainable, impactful projects that benefit the community for generations to come.
On the heels of America Recycles Day, CSWD officially broke ground on the $38 million, 74,000 SF facility, which will replace the current recycling facility that has been in operation since 1993.
What Makes the New MRF Special?
The new MRF will feature modern technology and sustainable design elements that will not only increase capacity and efficiency but also reduce the environmental impact of the recycling process:
- Modern Sorting Technology: The facility will utilize the latest in automated sorting and processing systems to ensure recyclables are separated with maximum efficiency.
- Increased Capacity: With the ability to process 40% more materials, the facility will meet the growing demand for recycling services in the region and improve the overall performance of the recycling system.
- Green Building Features: The design will focus on sustainability, incorporating energy-efficient solutions and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, further enhancing the facility’s environmental benefits.
- Public Education: An education center with a viewing platform will allow visitors to learn about the recycling process and the importance of responsible waste management.
A Collaborative Effort with Lasting Impact
This project is funded by a combination of CSWD reserves, grants, and a $22 million bond approved by Chittenden County voters. It’s an investment in modern infrastructure that will not only improve recycling services but also serve as a hub for education and community engagement.
“We are incredibly proud to be a part of this project,” said Chris Huston, VP of Preconstruction at ReArch Construction. “The CSWD’s commitment to innovation and sustainability aligns perfectly with ReArch’s values, and we are excited to help build a facility that will support Vermont’s recycling future for decades.”
The new facility is expected to open in January 2027 and will significantly improve the efficiency of the recycling process, reduce contamination, and help meet Vermont’s long-term environmental goals.
