Project Description:
Reid Commons is a four-story, multi-unit affordable housing development located in St. Albans, Vermont. Owned and operated by Cathedral Square, the project delivers 33 high-quality rental units designed for individuals aged 55 and older, serving households with incomes ranging from 30% to 80% of the area median income. The development addresses a critical need for accessible, energy-efficient housing for older adults in the community while promoting long-term affordability and sustainability.
The building incorporates a range of advanced energy and sustainability features, including a 15-kilowatt rooftop solar photovoltaic array, a geothermal heating and cooling system, and a high-performance building envelope. Together, these systems significantly reduce energy consumption, lower operating costs, and improve indoor comfort for residents throughout the year. The design emphasizes durability, efficiency, and occupant health, supporting both environmental stewardship and long-term building performance.
Reid Commons stands as a model for sustainable, affordable senior housing in Vermont.
